Is it a day care or a day home?

Art and Soul Montessori is a home based childcare with maximum six children in the program. It is non-regulated private day home program licensed under Art and Soul Montessori Childcare Inc.Alberta.

What does your program setting look like?

Our program offers a child-sized world. Materials and curriculum center on practical life, sensorial, language, math geography, history, science, art and music. Materials or exercises are designed to stimulate independent exploration. This prepared environment entices the child to proceed at his own pace from simple activities to complex ones

Our philosophy:

Unlike traditional schooling where a set curriculum is based on the child’s age and expecting all children to study and progress through that material at the same pace and each attain optimal results, we believe that no two children are at the same spot in their development. In a Montessori environment, all kids can meet their full potential and work at their own pace.

Is it a multi-age groups program?

Our multiple program settings can accommodate same and multi-age groups andoffer a professionally developed curriculum that is catered to infants, toddlers, Preschoolers and kindergarteners.

How do you ensure the quality of this program in a mixed day home setting?

The combination of different ages allows the children the opportunity to learn from each other and permits the older children to reinforce their knowledge by sharing their skills with the younger children.

This is the only program of Von Network that has two full time program directors who are certified from NAMC in early age Montessori. Both directors have over 7 years of experience in early childcare education and passion for becoming the best childcare provider in Calgary. Hence, parents are assured of a premium quality childcare.

How is a Art and Soul Montessori Childcare different from other childcare services?

In most childcare settings, the children are taught educational concepts in a group by a teacher. After being in a Montessori environment and studying the method for nearly 7 years, I must admit that the best teaching method is entirely dedicated to self-directed learning, the multi-age grouping environment, and dedication to individual growth. At Art and Soul program, we seek to educate the whole child with focus on individual learning and potential.

What is the role of the program directors?

The Directors work with individual children, introduces materials, and gives guidance where needed. One of the primary tasks is careful observation of each child in order to determine his/her needs and to gain the knowledge needed in preparing the environment to aid his/her growth.

What are sensitive periods?

This is Montessori’s name for age periods when the child shows unusual capabilities in acquiring particular skills. Dr. Montessori found that the child is able to absorb different subjects more readily at different ages or periods of growth.

What about socialization and group work?

Socialization is very much a part of the Montessori Method. In the classroom you will notice children interacting, choosing to work on projects together, and older children helping younger ones. Each day there is a group gathering time.

How well do Montessori children adjust to public schools?

Montessori educated children are generally very flexible and adjust quite easily to public schools. They are often better students and spend their time in more productive ways because they are self-directed and have a positive attitude toward learning.

Is the child free to do what they choose in the classroom?

Children are free to move about the classroom at will, to talk to other children, to work with equipment or ask the teacher to introduce new materials to them. They are not free to disturb others at work or to abuse the equipment so important to their development.

With all this freedom, isn’t there confusion?

The concept of freedom within the classroom is a freedom within limits. A child is allowed to work freely as long as the ground rules are followed. Because children have the freedom to follow their own interests, they are generally happy and busily involved with their work

How do we as parents remain connected with our children?

Teachers share daily reports with parents via smart phone app called Tadpole. The report provides a detailed snapshot of theday: – craft work, activities performed and meals served etc.

What is your food menu?

We run rotating menus that have been developed in consultation with nutritionists and parents. All meals are made with whole foods and cooked with loving care and attention. Each parent is shared the food menu ahead of time so we are notified of any special dietary requirements for a child.

Does Art and Soul program offer the services in other languages?

Yes! Our program offers a second language integration which is Hindi. French is also being integrated soon.

What is your policy on television and internet?

We have a NO TELEVISION policy at any of theVon Network programs.

Are children on a set schedule or individual schedule for naptimes?

At Art and Soul, we coordinate with parents and maintain an established napping schedule by parents in order to support cohesion between home and day home!

How much notice must I give if I want to change my schedule or leave the program?

Like many other childcare providers in Calgary, we require 1 calendar month notice. This means that if you would like to have your last billing day July 1st, then you must let us know by June 1st. If you were to let the registrar know on June 2nd, then you last day would be August 1st

What is the sick policy?

We also employ a health and safety expert on staff that is able to answer parent queries as to our policies on this topic.
